CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY FOR
SEXUAL PERFORMANCE ANXIETY
WHEN PERFORMANCE BECOMES THE FOCUS
Sexual performance anxiety is more common than many people realise.
It can affect confidence, arousal and enjoyment — and once something doesn't go as expected, the fear of it happening again can sometimes become part of the problem.
You may find yourself wondering “Will I be able to perform?”, monitoring what's happening rather than enjoying the moment, or becoming increasingly anxious as intimacy approaches.
The difficulty is that sexual response isn't something we can simply command.
The more pressure you put on yourself to perform, the harder it can become to relax and allow things to happen naturally.
Sometimes the problem follows a single experience. At other times it develops gradually — perhaps during a period of stress, following changes in a relationship, or simply through becoming increasingly conscious of your sexual performance.
WHAT CAN WE WORK ON?
PERFORMANCE ANXIETY
Reducing the pressure and expectations you place on yourself.
FEAR OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN
Breaking the cycle between a previous experience and what you expect to happen next time.
OVERTHINKING DURING INTIMACY
Helping you move away from constantly monitoring what's happening.
CONFIDENCE
Rebuilding trust in yourself and your natural responses.
STRESS & ANXIETY
Working with wider pressures that may be affecting your sexual wellbeing.
MENTAL REHEARSAL & VISUALISATION
Helping you imagine intimacy with greater calm, confidence and enjoyment.
The aim isn't to make you perform. It's to help remove some of what may be getting in the way.
HOW CAN CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY HELP?
Where an underlying physical or medical cause has been ruled out, Clinical Hypnotherapy can help us work with the anxiety, expectations and thought patterns that may be interfering with your natural sexual response.
Rather than concentrating solely on performance, we'll look at what happens in your mind before and during intimacy — particularly worry, self-monitoring, loss of confidence or the fear of something going wrong.
Depending on your individual circumstances, I may combine Clinical Hypnotherapy with DAtechnique®, visualisation and other techniques to help you develop a calmer, more confident response.
Less thinking. Less pressure. More confidence in your natural response.
WHEN ONE EXPERIENCE BECOMES AN EXPECTATION
Something doesn't go as expected.
Next time, you remember what happened.
You start wondering whether it will happen again.
That thought creates anxiety. Anxiety increases self-monitoring. And suddenly you're thinking about what's happening instead of simply experiencing it.
That's how a single experience can sometimes become a pattern.
Part of our work can be about interrupting that cycle — changing the expectation, reducing the pressure and helping you approach intimacy differently.
SOMETIMES THERE'S MORE TO IT
Sexual difficulties can have physical as well as psychological causes and may sometimes be related to medication, health conditions, hormonal factors or other circumstances.
Clinical Hypnotherapy isn't a substitute for appropriate medical assessment or treatment.
Where the problem is new, persistent, unexplained or there may be a physical component, I may ask you to speak with your doctor or another appropriate healthcare professional before we work together.
Once an underlying medical issue has been ruled out or is being appropriately managed, we can concentrate on the anxiety, confidence and psychological aspects that may also be contributing.
PRIVATE. RESPECTFUL. PERSONAL.
I understand that talking about sexual concerns can feel uncomfortable or embarrassing.
Our conversations are private, respectful and completely individual. You don't need to provide unnecessary intimate detail or explain anything you're not comfortable discussing.
We'll talk about what's relevant to understanding the difficulty, how it's affecting you and what you'd like to change.
No judgement. No embarrassment. Just a conversation about what's happening and how we might change it.
YOUR EXPERIENCE. YOUR APPROACH.
Sexual performance anxiety isn't the same for everyone.
For one person it may centre around a particular experience. For another it may be confidence, stress, expectations or a pattern that has gradually developed over time.
We'll look at what happens specifically for you and shape the work around your experience rather than applying a predetermined formula.
READY TO TAKE SOME OF THE PRESSURE AWAY?
If sexual performance anxiety is affecting your confidence or enjoyment, we can start with a private, relaxed conversation about what's happening.
There's no obligation and no need to go into unnecessary detail.
